Beginning Bellydance
New to bellydance? This level is perfect for you if you’ve had under a year of experience, even no experience! Classes focus on the fundamentals and we move at a slower pace suitable for brand new students, with lots of detailed breakdowns and repetition. You’ll learn: correct posture, what muscles to isolate, step names and how to dance them! Come ready for a mild workout!
Classes are held in 6 week sessions. The topics for Fall 2025 are below. Registration is required and spots are limited. Please email me to reserve your spot!
Session 1 Fall 2025
THURSDAYS 6:30-7:30
six weeks: Sept. 4th - Oct. 9th
(9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9)
Golden Era Bellydance! Badia Masabni, Samia Gamal, Tehea careoka! Glamour, romance and an old Hollywood vibe! Heels, veils and black and white charm! We’ll watch clips of the greats, the pioneers of bellydance. We’ll learn about the stars of the old Cairo nightclubs and try on their style with combos inspired by their grace. Registration for session 1 is open now! Space is limited in this new studio so reserve your spot!
Session 2 Fall 2025
six weeks
THURSDAYS 6:30-7:30
six weeks: Oct. 16th - Dec. 4th (no class the week of Halloween or Thanksgiving)
(10/16, 10/23, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, 12/4)
Drum solos! Hot spicy isolations! Sass, energy, and rhythms. We'll break down a rhythm each class and a couple of different moves that go well with it. Drum solos don't have to be complicated to be fun and they are a great way to practice isolations and get your heart pumpin'!
Intermediate Bellydance Technique
This ongoing and drop-in friendly class is all about technique. I teach the class at an intermediate level but I can challenge more advanced dancers with layering options. In this class we drill, a lot! My goal is to get your heart rate up and get you a little sweaty. We start with a vigorous warmup that I switch up every few weeks. I use a combo of Pilates, yoga and strength training to target muscles we, as bellydancers, want to develop. Next we focus on one or two specific drills to develop our hard skill set. This is usually challenging and a little frustrating but that’s how we grow! We may also drill across the floor to work on our stamina.
Next we dial it back a little and get moving with a short little combo or movement phrase that feels more like dancing and less like a drill. Class always ends with a little cool down and I tell ya how awesome you are. Like I said, this class is all about technique! If you are interested in the artistry and cultural aspects of bellydance check out the advanced topics class.
Want to come? Just come! No need to preregister but plan on showing up a few minutes early your first class to fill out a couple forms. Class cards may be used for this class. If you have any questions, big or small, shoot me an email. Hope to see you in class!
Special Topics
This class delves into the artistry and cultural aspects of bellydance. We cover lots of different topics, choreography, props, improvisation, live music, different styles and I plan on presenting guest teachers. This class will mostly be held in sessions, meaning it's not drop-in friendly and it's best to start at the beginning. However, there will be some sessions that are okay to drop in to. Some sessions will be very beginner friendly and other sessions will require at least a basic understanding of bellydance fundamentals. If you have any questions or want more info... email!
